Overflow Detector

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Overflow Detector inspects page layout locally in your browser. It does not send page content or scan results to the developer or any external server.

What the extension does

Overflow Detector helps you find elements that extend beyond a webpage’s horizontal viewport. You can highlight elements, inspect a list of issues, show outlines, and temporarily hide elements while investigating a layout.

Website content processed locally

When you open the extension on a page, it loads its bundled inspection code into that tab. To detect overflow, this code reads the page’s document structure, element identifiers and classes, computed styles, element dimensions, and text geometry. Text nodes are accessed locally to measure overflowing text.

Issue details such as element selectors, tag names, and overflow measurements are passed between the page inspection code and the extension popup within your browser. Scan state is temporary and associated with the current page. Page content and scan results are not uploaded, sold, or shared with external parties.

Preferences stored on your device

The extension uses Chrome’s local extension storage to save your theme, overflow tolerance, and highlight preferences. A local browser-storage copy of the theme helps apply it when the popup opens. These preferences are not synced by the extension to a developer server.

Permissions

The extension does not request permanent access to every website. Chrome restricts inspection on browser settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, and certain other protected pages.

Analytics and third parties

The extension contains no analytics, advertising, tracking services, remote executable code, or account system. The developer does not receive your browsing history or page content.

This policy page is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors’ IP addresses for security when this website is visited; see the GitHub Privacy Statement. This website hosting is separate from the extension’s local scanning.

Your controls

Stop a scan to clear issue highlights and restore elements hidden by the extension. All outlines has its own toggle. Reloading or leaving a page clears the inspection code and its temporary page state. Uninstalling the extension removes its locally stored extension preferences.

Changes and contact

This policy will be updated if the extension’s data practices change. The date above identifies the latest update.
